“We got to stick together”

There are two Puerto Rican paralegals at the law firm I intern at. I’ve been talking to the man, but I just started to talk to the woman, Yvette, today. Through the conversation she found out I was an unpaid intern and she got so upset. Like actually really upset, it surprised me lol. After she walked away still talking about how pissed that made her, she comes back to me ten minutes later asking me to send her my resume. She got in contact with her old company that finds part time temp work for paralegals, and told them about me. I was so shocked she went out of her way to do this for me. I told her she didn’t need to do that, and I was so thankful. Her reply: “we got to help each other out, and you deserve it. Don’t mention it.”

Lost my debit card, Yale ID, keys, and money

Somehow someone found out my cellphone number and left me a voicemail telling me they found it and left it a spot on campus so I could find it. When I got to it, nothing was taken. No clue who it was, but I owe them so freaking much.

It was a very tough year professionally for me and I thought about leaving teaching. Your visit several weeks back renewed my spirit and belief in what I do. Then, to receive your beautifully written letter, it cemented that this is where I’m meant to be!

A letter from my teacher.

My heart dropped to my knees when I read the first line. I could never imagine how my favorite teacher could ever stop teaching. She was always the teacher who would be smiling as you walked into class; who made everything you learned interesting; who gave you a hug if you were down; and who always were there to talk to you. Her impact on me was far greater than the fourth grade, and I always thought she realized how much she meant to her students. Knowing that simply just visiting her helped her realize she was meant to be a teacher makes me extremely happy and grateful that I did.

So at the Jersey Shore, I got a henna tattoo showing my love for Yale haha. Since then, I’ve gotten so many weird looks from people thinking it’s real. At work, I get so many comments about it. The funny thing is, the majority of those comments were (besides “how is your tattoo so dark?”) “Is that the name of your dog?” When I’m like “Oh no, I’m going there next year” they give me a puzzled look, and I say “it’s a college” and then they still give me a puzzled look and just reply “Oh.” I laugh awkwardly and keep bagging their stuff haha.
When one person did ask if I was attending, their reaction made my day. She told me how she was so proud of me, and I’m gonna do big and amazing things. Her smile reached ear to ear and she was so happy for me. I literally just met her twenty seconds before that and I was ringing up her purchases, but she said it so genuinely. Her random act of kindness made my day.
