Not only did I have lunch with President Leonel Fernández, former president of the Dominican Republic, but also performed for him and danced merengue alongside him today!
Off to the Dominican Republic! Reach Out-Yspaniola let’s go! (at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK))
On Friday, February 22, La Casa closed its campaign week with a showcase at Ezra Stiles College’s Crescent Theater. The event featured performances from various groups registered within the cultural center, such as Ballet Folklórico, Sabrosura, and ¡Oye! Spoken Word.
However, the showcase also aimed to display the wide diversity of skills and interests even within Yale’s Latino community. Therefore, the audience enjoyed acts from a variety of other performance groups in which Latino students are involved, including Rangeela (a fusion Bollywood dance team), Pitches & Tones (Yale’s newest a capella group), Konjo (the West African dance troupe), and the Yale Ballroom Dance team. What a night!

So happy with how well the show ended up going! Organizing it was so stressful, but totally worth it!
Do you want to see Yale’s hottest Latin dance group shake it? Well, look no further: Sabrosura’s fall show is now on YouTube!
(This show was a lot of fun to put together, you guys.)
Check it out y’all! (I’m in Suavemente and Rabiosa!) I had such an awesome time with everyone on the team. Being in the studio all day was hilarious, and it didn’t even stop us from getting down again all night at the after-party hahahaa. That entire day couldn’t have been better with all the amazing people in Sabro!
17 years and over a hundred pounds later, my dad still is able to carry me on his shoulder. Thanks for putting up with my insanity, Dad.
Scene at Yale: Despierta Boricua 40th Anniversary Gala
This past weekend, Despierta Boricua - Yale’s Puerto Rican Student Organization - commemorated DB’s 40th Anniversary with a Gala that celebrated the impact DB has had on the Yale campus, as well as the growth of the Latino community at Yale.
Pictured above is a majority of the attendees of the dinner, including the keynote speaker, Federal District Court Judge Edgardo Ramos ‘82.
Many thanks to DB President William Genova ‘15 for sharing the photo with us! Photo by Román Castellanos ‘15.
